Fired up!

Just a quick update as Fire Season transitions from Northern California to all you folks down south….

As you have no doubt seen on television and in the papers, this has been an historic year for California wildfires. We usually keep stats on the moisture levels if different fuels (1 hour, 10 hour, 100 hour) but this year most of those % simply read "dead" due to the drought. Even with the recent LA storms, it's expected that the Santa Anna winds will create havoc in Southern California in October. We have consistently had crews out on all the major fires since July 4th and expect to stay busy through November.

Personally, I've been backfilling vacancies in Vacaville which only means working hard "here" rather than "there". In my 21 years on, it's never been this bad locally or statewide. I attached two videos (if they work) from fires this past week — one of a workshop fire and another of a jet plane dropping retardant. The plane passed directly overhead twice at 100' doing drops which was definitely an experience – the video is from my coworkers house on the other side of the hill the fire was on.

All in all, it's been an experience, but not one I need to see again.

Hope everyone is well – stay safe.

Robert
