After the Monsoon… Autumn in India!

We have moved into the fall here, and have really enjoyed being out and about during the warm late September and October. It is a small respite between endless rains and muggy summer, and the frigid winter that is to come. Being out more, means running into more animals in the wild, as they too are enjoying the sun. Whether its a pack of brown monkeys on the path to town, or a big old cow sitting next to the lake, we are constantly reminded that we are living in the rurals.

On the other hand, most of the time we are encountering these beasts is when we are heading to town to buy just about anything we’d like from the amazing stores here, or to eat at one of the many amazing restaurants that serve food ranging from authentic Korean, to not-so-authentic Mexican, to the ever present, and usually excellent, pizza. On our way home from town, we usually stop in at our go-to market, which has just about anything you could want… we’ve even found the same Thai Green Curry paste we loved in Brooklyn, and cans of Ginger Beer.

All in all, life is a constant paradox here, be it the wild animals in the yard, the wide variety of foods, or even the monks with iPhones. India is really moving towards the future, while still firmly rooted in the past, and I am glad we are here for a bit to experience it.

Eliza's style is definitely evolving, as her western clothes are slowly replaced by new ones purchased in India.
We hiked up to the Bagsu waterful, above the Shiva temple... way, way above. Along the way, Eliza was idolized by the usual bevy of local papparazzi.
Monkeys now seem almost as ordinary as seeing a stray dog. Sometimes they surprise as when we open our front door, like this little guy.
Occasionally, we get some time alone, to just be MC and Nate in India.. but actualy this picture wasn't one of them. We just cropped Eliza out, because she was making a funny face.
A constant highlight of life here is the every present lifestock / wild animals around us at all times. Luckily the giant horned bulls are docile.
Another entry in the wild animals / pets department... Gray Langur monkeys often visit our front yard. These are the *nice* monkeys, as opposed to the grumpy brown ones.
We found more pictures to share of our visit by D, M & M - not much to say about this one, just a cute family portrait. We were eating really excellent Korean food.
A quick photo op in front of the Students for a Free Tibet sign and office. In fact this is SFT India, and you should visit their site now http://sftindia.org !
The two cousins had a blast... in a few months, you can expect M to be wearing that dress.
I think she was pretending to be a monkey here, or perhaps just having a blast on our front deck, or maybe just enjoying the view... who knows whats going through that pretty little head!
Mommy points out the monkey in the trees in front of our house to E. Sometimes they seem just like little furry naked humans sleeping out in the trees. It is cute and creepy, and Eliza is endlessly fascinated.
Here we are finally with real pets, non-wild animals. These are Eliza's favorite friends in the world, Norbu and Tsingay. We must visit, pet and feed them multiple times a day. They help keep our yard monkey free (mostly!).
